Below is Harvard Business School's response to media inquiries about its decision to train notorious war criminal Dan Halutz.
If you think that HBS should broaden its sources when evaluating applicants who are potential war criminals beyond the abusers' own employers -- say, to include reports by major human rights organizations -- please write in. Click here for some of the many letters that have already been sent.

Who would you hire to run your company?

2009-05-28 12:35:06 by spleen

Candidate A.) A person without a college degree who has worked his way up through your industry, proving their skill and value along the way, progressively advancing up through the executive ranks.
Candidate B.) A Harvard grad, Magna Cum Laude, Editor of the Harvard Review - who has run social programs in Chicago for several years.
I'm going with A, thank you very much. But that's me, I'm a bottom line kind of guy.
I'm not arguing that an education is without value - just that it's value must be put into context.
Many students use college to strengthen themselves in a way they couldn't elsewhere

Is pre-purchase counseling an effective way to prevent buyers from taking on more house than they can afford?
A new study from NeighborWorks America, a community development agency, links buyer counseling to significantly lower default rates.
In an evaluation of 75,000 mortgages originated from 2007 to 2009, NeighborWorks determined that borrowers who went through its prepurchase counseling program were nearly a third less likely than noncounseled borrowers to fall behind in payments 90 days or more in the first two years after closing.
